A collection of over 2000 autographs, literary fragments, inscribed fly-leaves, book plates, title pages and printer's devices covering a period of over five centuries. Subjects range from noted figures such as Mary Wollstonecraft to unidentified schoolboys. This collection was primarily the work of Frederick Hendriks, and has a strong European focus. It was purchased by Robert Carl Sticht after Hendriks' death, when some items were removed and others relating to Australian history were added.

Frederick Hendriks, actuary, statistician and collector, was born in 1827. He began work as an actuary to the Globe Insurance Company and eventually became director of the Universal Assurance Company. He was a member of the Society of Actuaries and the Royal Statistical Society. He was also known for his interest in international finance and his work on the feasibility of an international currency. The King of Sweden in granted him the decoration of the Order of Vasa in 1870. He die...
